Here is the poem in full.

“Light skin or dark skinned
Rich black or poor black
Uptown or hood rat
Just know you’re still black
House slave or field slave
Gold chains or no chains
Toyota or a big range
Just know your skin ain’t changed.

You’re on the table with power, but don’t choose to use your voice
Whilst there’s brothers in the field because they ain’t got a choice
You’re in the jeweller buying jewels, but even if you freeze you’re getting shot
whilst others hustle on the block killing each other for their spot
You rather die for place that you’re renting
Because of what?
Can’t we put our funds together buy our area, and take it to the top
Wish we would start from the beginning build it back to where we’re from
And if you don’t believe in words, well don’t be blind if you are dumb.

Light skin or dark skinned
Rich black or poor black
Uptown or hood rat
Just know you’re still black
House slave or field slave
Gold chains or no chains
Toyota or a big range
Just know your skin ain’t changed.

I’m not saying don’t enjoy because we all need to ease the pain
But always making it rain isn’t going to help when a storm comes your way
Don’t you want to be free? Financially free that is
Dying broke just to live rich, to impress that ‘bitch’ or ‘look like you’re the shit’ for people that don’t mean shit…
To you.
Make that make sense?
Ownerships and assets, now that one makes sense
So at least when you die, your bread is feeding your next gen.

Light skin or dark skinned
Rich black or poor black
Uptown or hood rat
Just know you’re still black
House slave or field slave
Gold chains or no chains
Toyota or a big range
Just know your skin ain’t changed.”
