It’s been a while but still, make sure to follow the Berry Instagram Page for everything new since.
There are so many angles to this that I don’t know how to tackle this. I feel like the first thing I should mention is the body of the black woman is majestic, so much so that it envied and fetishised at the same time.
Back in the 19th century, there used to be “freak shows” that would showcase black women with large bums. A quote from an exhibition flyer with Sarah Baartman (who was well known for these exhibitions) was “People came to see her because they saw her not as a person but as a pure example of this one part of the natural world.” But yet, the same thing that the British people ridiculed is the same thing they began to copy with their dresses.
It has become prevalent in this society to get butt implants, and have your body shaped a certain way, and why do you think that is? There’s plenty of stories of how black woman have been lust over for years. Many of our women have been subjected to a heap of different comments based on just how their body looks.
It’s very hard for me to write this because like I said before, there are so many angles to this, I don’t know how to map this out into a full post. On my part, I feel there’s a lot more research I need to do before I can talk about this the way I would want to. And I also don’t want to start talking about white people in a certain way because I don’t think that is right either. I definitely have to come back to this post because I’ve barely even scratched the surface with this topic because I was struggling.
I think it’s important to end with the message of You are beautiful queen, and don’t let anybody tell you differently.
