The first step is to follow your 10 Instagram competitors, click on their followers, and ENGAGE!
For the best follow back percentage, I would recommend:
- Following 100 of your competitors followers
- Like 2-3 of their pictures
- Comment on at least one of them
Of course, this can become tedious, so you can hire a freelancer to do this task for you, and every 7-10 days have them mass unfollow the users followed, then repeat the process.
Instagram Direct is a great way to reach your most engaged followers. You can send them things like “Insider” videos, exclusive contests, Invite to a Q&A, Invite to an event, etc.

Hosting contests and giveaways are a great engagement boost! Here are a couple of ideas you can implement for your page/brand:
- Cash prize
- Free product/service
- Assign a unique hashtag to your contest
- Have users use your hashtag, handle in the caption, and tag you in the post
- Give rules in your caption
- DM or email the winner
Another type of thing brands like to do is loop giveaways. This is when 5-30 brands host a multi-brand/ product contest.
